📖 Quick Start Guide

Setting Up iCloud Sync

To enable iCloud sync (recommended):

Make sure you’re signed in to iCloud on your device (Settings → [Your Name])
iCloud sync is automatically enabled for Stōr
Your lists will sync across all your Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID
Changes appear in real-time on your other devices

Note: If this is your first time opening Stōr with iCloud enabled, the app will check for existing cloud data before loading default categories.

Creating and Managing Lists

Your first list:

The app starts with a default “Shopping List” with 10 pre-configured categories
You can rename, customize, or delete this list at any time

To create a new list:

Tap the gear icon (⚙️) in the top left
Select “Manage Lists”
Tap the + icon in the top right
Enter a name for your list
Tap “Save”
New lists start empty - add your own categories!

To switch between lists:

Tap the gear icon (⚙️) in the top left
Select the list you want to use (marked with a checkmark)

To rename or delete a list:

Go to “Manage Lists”
Tap a list or swipe left
Choose “Edit” or “Delete”
You must keep at least one list

Adding Your First Item

Tap the orange + button at the bottom right of the screen
Type the item name in the search box
Tap the item pill or press enter to add it to your list
If it’s a new item without a category, you’ll be prompted to choose one
Select a category or tap “Skip” to leave it uncategorized
The item appears in your list

Using Quick Suggestions

When adding items, you’ll see your frequently added items displayed as pills
Simply tap any pill to instantly add that item to your list
Long-press a suggestion for quick quantity options (1, 2, 3, or 4)

Managing Items

To check off an item:

Tap anywhere on the item to mark it as shopped
Swipe right on the item for quick shopping action
Tap again to uncheck it

To edit an item:

Swipe left on the item and tap “Edit”, or
Tap and hold the item for a moment

In the edit screen you can:

Change the item name
Adjust quantity using + and - buttons
Change the category
Add notes (brand preferences, size, etc.)

To delete an item:

Swipe left on the item and tap “Remove”, or
In edit mode: Open the item and use the delete option in the edit view

Working with Categories

To manage categories:

Tap the gear icon (⚙️) in the top left
Select “Manage Categories”
View all categories for the current list

To create a new category:

Open category management (gear icon → Manage Categories)
Tap the + icon in the top right
Enter a name and choose a color
Tap “Save”
The category is added to your current list

To edit a category:

Tap any category in the management list, or
Swipe left and tap “Edit”
Change the name or color
Tap “Save”

To delete a category:

Swipe left on the category
Tap “Remove”
All items in that category will become uncategorized

To reorder categories:

Tap and hold the category
Drag it to your preferred position

Note: Categories are specific to each list. Different lists can have completely different categories!

View Modes

Switch between two viewing modes using the segmented control at the top:

Categories View:

Items grouped by category
Color-coded sections
Collapsible groups
Perfect for organized shopping

List View:

Simple alphabetical list
No category groupings
Quick overview of all items

Collapsing/Expanding Sections

In Categories View:

Tap any section header to collapse or expand that category
Tap the chevron icon in the top right to expand/collapse all sections at once

Removing Shopped Items

After shopping:

Scroll to the “Shopped” section at the bottom
Tap “Remove all shopped”
All checked items are cleared from your list

iCloud Sync Best Practices

Keep devices signed in: Ensure all your devices are signed in to the same iCloud account
Check sync status: Changes should appear within seconds on your other devices
Wi-Fi or cellular: iCloud sync works on both Wi-Fi and cellular data
Add on one device, shop on another: Add items on your iPhone at home, then access the same list on your iPad while shopping

Multiple Lists Strategy

Create list per store: Keep separate lists for different stores with store-specific categories
Special occasion lists: Birthday party supplies, camping trips, etc.
Department-specific: Hardware store, pharmacy, pet supplies
Each list learns independently: Frequent items are tracked per list for better suggestions

🔒 Privacy

Your data is stored securely using iCloud and syncs across your Apple devices when you’re signed in to iCloud. We don’t collect, transmit, or store any of your shopping list data on external servers—everything stays in your private iCloud account. Your information is completely private and under your control. If you prefer not to use iCloud sync, you can disable iCloud for Stōr in your device settings, and your data will remain local only.

Q: Do new lists come with default categories? A: No, new lists start empty. This gives you complete flexibility to create only the categories you need. The initial “Shopping List” comes with 10 default categories to help you get started.

Q: Can I sync my lists between devices? A: Yes! As of version 1.4.0, Stōr supports iCloud sync. Make sure you’re signed in to iCloud on all your devices, and your shopping lists will automatically sync across your iPhone, iPad, and other Apple devices.

Q: How do I enable iCloud sync? A: iCloud sync is enabled automatically when you’re signed in to iCloud on your device. If you want to disable sync, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud and toggle off Stōr.

Q: Can I share my list with family members? A: List sharing with family members is not currently available but is on our roadmap for future releases. Currently, iCloud sync only works across your own devices.

Q: How do I backup my data? A: Your data is automatically backed up to iCloud when iCloud sync is enabled. If you disable iCloud sync, your data is included in your device’s local iCloud backup.

Q: Why are different items suggested for different lists? A: Each list learns independently. Frequent items are tracked per list, so your grocery list suggestions won’t appear in your hardware store list.

Q: Can I skip categorizing an item? A: Yes! When prompted to select a category, you can tap “Skip” to leave the item uncategorized. You can always categorize it later by editing the item.
